Portfolio Risk Manager (Credit)

Job Overview

Optimisation of usage of available capital resources and the creation of a desired portfolio risk profile through the application, in conjunction with the business, of Portfolio Standards and Risk Appetite principles.

Approve BCAs under personal delegated credit authority.

Effective monitoring of underwriting and control disciplines to ensure good turnaround times, a well managed portfolio and the enforcement of credit risk policies.

Developing relationships with business partners and balancing the role with stakeholder expectations.

Instil a strong credit culture by setting the highest standards and ensuring that these are maintained.

Ensuring quick transparent escalation of important issues and engaging fully in key risk forums including the Early Alert, MTM and other Risk Committees.

Producing timely and accurate reports on the portfolio that meet the Gold Standard

Portfolio Management

Partner with the business to deliver strategic aspirations whilst remaining within agreed risk appetite and optimising use of risk capital.

Through active use of the Portfolio Standards and Risk MI reporting tools and portfolio reviews with the business, control risk profiles to ensure that portfolio shape is in line with strategy.

Understand sensitivities to key risk drivers and potential stress impact on the portfolio.

The monitoring and escalation of potential problem clients through the MTM, ASTAR and Early Alert processes as well as through ad hoc reviews.

Assist in managing up or out of accounts exhibiting signs of deterioration and assist Group Special Assets Management, where appropriate, to maximise recoveries.

Risk Approval

Approve BCAs under own personal discretion.

Coaching OCC BCA proposers.

Process Control and Policy Management

Ensure consistent interpretation and application of global credit policies and that all deviations are appropriately reported, escalated and approved.

Ensure processes are consistently implemented taking into consideration local requirements and constraints.

Assist in the implementation and monitoring of local regulations and Business Guidelines.

Stakeholder Management

Ensure that Credit Risk decisions are transparent and supporting rationales are explained in a professional and courteous manner especially when turning down proposals.

Cost Budgeting and Capacity Planning

Contribute to the country and regional capacity plans and manage to the target operating model for the relevant area, ensuring compliance with same

Degree (in a relevant discipline) or equivalent (ACIB/CFA)

Relevant levels of banking experience with a significant portion of this in a risk environment

Experience of legal documentation

Strong understanding of company balance sheets and corporate financing instruments

Good command of English language

Ability to balance risk and reward
